Played AAU basketball for 5 years, coached by Coach Hill, his foster parent, Coach Morgan and Coach Zeigler. Traveled throughout the nation with AAU teams. Played basketball and football at Benjamin E. Mays HS. Won back-to-back State Basketball Championships.
I owe a lot of my development to Coach Hill, my AAU coach and foster parent. He and several of the other coaches provided me guidance, support and opportunities that I will never forget.
Ray Ray was profiled in Sports Illustrated, the Atlanta Journal Constitution and the national television media (OPRAH Show, ABC Person of the Week, ESPN Sports Center, CNN, etc.) as a young man whose story inspires others.
Junior at Jacksonville State University. Guard on the basketball team. See basketball profile at www.jusugamecocksports.com
I started playing AAU ball at the age of nine. Played for Coaches Hill, Morgan and Zeigler plus several others for ten years with the Atlanta Celtics. AAU taught me how to play with heart and pride. I graduated from Benjamin E. Mays HS in 2005. Won back-to-back State championships. Received a basketball scholarship to Jacksonville State University. My friends call me Little Dee because I stand 5'6" and weight 145lbs. But I play basketball with the heart of a giant. Coaches Hill, Morgan and Zeigler had faith in me by giving me opportunities to play while many others thought that I was too small.
Junior at North Carolina State A & T University.
Majoring in Architectural Engineering.
Played basketball at Benjamin E. Mays HS, winning back-to-back State basketball Championships.
Played AAU basketball for four years coached by Coaches Jones, Hill and Zeigler. My most memorable experiences were traveling to many out-of-state tournaments. I received a lot of advice from the coaches, Coach Zeigler's famous "chick chick" story, (keep your head up, don't follow the crowd, plan for the unexpected and soar with the eagles). Coach Hill's quotes; "Express yourself", "Get your Mind Right" and "Stop and See the Picture" and Coach Jones advice: "Don't be a Sleeping Giant". Thanks coaches.
Current Location: Conway, AR
Current Status:Fulltime Student-athlete,
a member of the basketball team, Hendrix College
Time period played AAU: Summer 2005
Coaches: Coach Hunter, Coach Stewart, Coach Zeigler, Coach Hill.
Most memorable event while playing AAU or knowledge gained: The entire season. The whole summer will never be forgotten. Advice I remembered: Work hard on defense and the offense will come. Additional comments: Ever since I first picked up a basketball I had enjoyed the game, but these coaches and this organization made me love it. It wasn't just the extremely skilled coaching staff but also the unbelievable amount of heart put in by everyone involved.
